The First Ever "LONGMAN LIVE"

Friday, July 03 2009 @ 11:18 AM BST

LongMan Records was set up in 1994 by maverick musician and concert guitarist Richard Durrant. The label has since enjoyed considerable success whilst becoming a musical map of Richard’s artistic encounters. The label encompasses many musical styles and now sells albums and downloads worldwide. In 2004 LongMan released the seminal album “The Secret of Life” by the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain which is still enjoying huge success.

In recent years Richard has produced critically acclaimed albums by a string of talented singer songwriters some of whom are featured at the first ever “LongMan Live” gig being held at the Ropetackle Arts Centre in LongMan Records’ home town Shoreham by Sea on Friday 17th July.

Here are some reviews of acts featured in this show:

Carly Bryant "So much more than just another girl with a guitar. Her voice has depth and originality, her compositions are peppered with spectacular and thought-provoking lines. This is a beautiful must-see, must-hear act." ROCKSMAG

Terry Emm “Outstanding debut...pastoral, romantic and lit musically by summer rays...this album is no routine singer- songwriter offering but some-thing totally engaging in melody and lyric...the cult starts here.” MOJO

The Hofners “There's something bright and sunny about "Colorama!" The Hofners give it a bit of that old latin style and mix it into a daiquiri with a splash of 1930s radio hall in a glass sugared with jazz. It's warm and welcoming, contemporary but with a nostalgic drive. It’s rich, almost luxurious, miles away from the working day. It's an album that indulges and welcomes us all into summer time and balmy evenings.” Fatea

Simon Stewart “One minute, he's on the railways the next he’s in a road movie. With shades of Isaaks and even Elvis there's a dry humour seeping through at every opportunity. His album "Across The Land" reflects his recent and well deserved inclusion in the MOJO readers-pick playlist. A special treat indeed.” Manchester Music

Mark Allen “Classic songwriting, timeless songs and consummate musicanship...formidable.” The Latest

The show will also include the soulful voice and songs of Jack Cryer and new LongMan songwriting duo “Demolition Sky”.

The evening will be hosted by Richard Durrant who will also play in the “House Band” with drummer Marianne Hillier-Brooks. (Pictured are Richard Durrant & Mark Allen and Terry Emm).
