Galactic Symphonies DAVD (LongMan048CD/DVD)
Friday, May 23 2008 @ 11:32 AM BST
In 2007 Richard was comissioned to write and record an album with Californian poet Stephen J Kalinich. The resulting double sided CD/DVD (DAVD) is being released at the Brighton Festival during the weekend of 24th May (click here for gig details)

Stephen Kalinich is widely known for his work as lyricist for Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys. He has also collaborated with dozens of big names as well as performing his poetry live.

Galactic Symphonies uses six of Stephen's poems with Richard's soundscapes & live guitar improvisations. The symphonies are performed with projected artwork and live vj-ing by digital artist Malcolm Buchanan-Dick. This combination was used as the basis for the DVD when a performance was filmed at Ropetacle Arts Centre in December 2007.

"HORSE" - Latest LongMan Release
Monday, November 12 2007 @ 07:58 PM GMT

LongMan Records proudly announces the completion of John Douglas Clark's album "Horse" which is now on sale. This half album, half sound installation has been described variously as 'Ivor Cutler meets Pink Floyd' and 'John Shuttleworth meets Prof. Stanley Unwin'. Album producer Richard Durrant says "Don't be lulled into a sense of false security by the first track. This album, like John himself, isn't something you stumble across every day. A stiff drink before your first listening may be advisable".

Audiences at Richard's monthly Airport Club have taken to singing track four, 'Daadeedum' as a sort of pre-gig Mantra, whilst the title track 'Horse' has heightened the keen anticipation for the scheduled sub-atomic collision in Cern early next year that could shed light on the mysterious 'Higgs Boson' thus providing new insight into the very substance of substance. The title track dances a strange route from the opening bars, featuring the whirr of a slightly loose overhead cambelt on an ageing Toyota engine, via a lumbering, hemiolic carthorse travelling at Superluminal speeds, to a blackbird in full song in a Shoreham garden.

The album was begun in the summer of 2006 and completed in October of this year. It features the playing of Tom Arnold, Philippe Barnes, Dirk Campbell, Malcolm Mortimore, Frank Semus, Jez Wiles and Richard Durrant with John himself on keyboards and voice. John appears as a sort of narrator and only sings on ocassional tracks. Perhaps the most noteworthy of these lead vocals is responsible for the life affirming sanguinity of 'Daadeedum'.

The album is currently only available from this site or from live shows until its national release in the spring of 2008. Watch this site for details.

Richard will be playing two special, candlelit guitar recitals in Sussex this year.

The first will be on Friday December 7th in the beautiful village of Wilmington. St Mary's Church is at the top of the village, next door to the 11th century Priory where Richard used to live and very close to the mysterious "Long Man" of Wilmington.

The following day's concert is at the other end of the county in the town of Midhurst.

Both concerts, starting at 7.30pm, will include suitably seasonal music to match the candlelit atmosphere of these wonderful buildings. Click Here to buy tickets
